Moving to more concrete ideas within the interior of the existing building translated into revealing layers both functional and aesthetic. However, these first iterations became too much about aesthetic and more of a recreation of victorian detail with modern amenities. It was clear that use of natural lighting, sustainable materials, and low maintenance hardware and furnishings were needed for an apartment environment. Keeping a streamlined aesthetic and clear circulation paths was another way to function efficiently in the space. The idea of revealing layers emerged, but the ideas at this point had not been pushed far enough to really work well. At this stage the design was more about revealing rooms and having light reveals than actually revealing components of the building and its structural make up.
