initial outdoor living space

Falling into a large perspective became the goal of this project. Ultimately the format of the drawing became a 30"x40" view, rendered in marker and prismacolor pencils. Spacial arrangements and a lived in atmosphere was key. Revealing the structural properties of the building and expressing its functional aesthetics was the basis of design thinking. This space is an addition to an existing 100 year old brick building. When looking at the space it was clear the relationship of what was happening on the inside of the existing space was not cohesive with this space and its exterior shell. A 21st century modern idea was evolving inside the adjacent space and this space and some of the exterior details were a throw back into a more Sullivan mindset and approach. Manipulating colors, textures, detailing, and structural systems moved more towards the modern update.
Each small picture below the lower one were color studies to see schemes that may work better together. Embracing the natural colors around the space and bringing those into this outdoor living space became a priority, and the final scheme and perspective were more successful in achieving these values.
